Colorado Renewable Schools Project
As 2008 showed, high or unpredictable energy costs increasingly expose schools to budget difficulties and as a result resources for education were cut nationally. Our CRS program benefits our nations schools by retrofitting inefficient “dirty-energy powered” schools in low-income neighborhoods with renewable energy systems and efficiency upgrades. By using the revenue from carbon offsets and financing with the aid of government grants and other incentives, this CRS program aims to provide these schools with a 50-70% savings in energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions!
The technologies that are featured in this program are: geothermal heat pumps, solar photovoltaic panels and efficiency upgrades (CFL light bulbs, insulation, smart controls, etc.)
This project, probably one of our favorite GreenFutures™ projects, is in development stages and more information will be posted as it becomes available.
