    Brazilian Amazon Avoided Deforestation Project

The state of Pará, in Brazil, is in the center of the “ARC OF DEFORESTATION” of the Amazon rainforest.  Big Tree Climate Fund has been asked to help protect an area of 32,000 hectares (80,000 acres) of this pristine environment.  The land, which borders a national park (Parque Estadual do Cantão) and is located on one of the most important tributaries of the Amazon River (the Rio Araguaia), is a natural gem containing a wealth of biodiversity including the elusive Jaguar.  Its preservation would also help preserve important wildlife corridors between the park and other patches of forest..
